Frequently asked questions

Great question, and we’re so glad you asked! Put simply, prebiotics are a type of dietary fibre. This means that they can’t be produced by our bodies and must be consumed via the foods that we eat. Prebiotics (often referred to as prebiotic fibre) act as a type of fuel source for the beneficial bacteria (also known as probiotics) which are found in our digestive tract. When we eat foods that contain prebiotics, they travel through our digestive system and nourish all the different probiotics found along their journey.

Absolutely 😊. BARLEYMAX® Super Barley is a rich source of fibre – and when you include high fibre foods into your diet, it is common to experience flatulence. However this is a positive sign that your digestive tract is adapting to the increased fibre intake. Over time, you’ll also notice that your flatulence should start to reduce. But, better out than in, we say! If you are concerned about ongoing flatulence issues, please speak to your health care professional.

What are the prebiotic fibres in BARLEYMAX® Super Barley? There are four types of naturally occurring prebiotic fibres in BARLEYMAX® Super Barley. They are:
• Arabinoxylans
• Fructans
• Beta-Glucan
• Resistant Starch -
BARLEYMAX® Super Barley does contain fructans, so it may not be suitable to some people with FODMAP sensitivity. If you are on a FODMAP elimination diet then it may not be the right time to introduce BARLEYMAX®. However, we do have happy customers report that re-inclusion of BARLEYMAX®
after a FODMAP elimination diet did not cause any issues. We recommend consulting your health care professional for personalised advice.
-
Whilst BARLEYMAX® Super Barley contains absolutely no nasties, we’d
recommend starting off slowly if you’d like to incorporate BARLEYMAX® Super Barley into your child’s diet. This is simply because of the high levels of
dietary fibre and combination of prebiotic fibres found in our products. Their tummies are smaller than that of an adult, and accordingly, their requirement
for dietary fibre is lower! We’d recommend speaking to your health care provider if this is something you’d like to explore further. -
BARLEYMAX® Super Barley is low GI, coming in at 32-34.
-
BARLEYMAX® is grown in the Riverina region of Southern New South Wales and Northern Victoria, by farmers who have been hand selected by our growing partner, Yenda Producers’ Co-Operative. All BARLEYMAX® Super Barley products are 100% Australian grown.
-
Absolutely not. All BARLEYMAX® Super Barley products are 100% natural and not genetically modified.
-
Nope! BARLEYMAX® Super Barley products contain no additives, no
preservatives and absolutely no nasties. All natural, and naturally good for you! -
