This short-term intervention study investigated how adding a fibre-rich barley (BARLEYMAX®) to the diet affects appetite, gastrointestinal comfort, satiety, and the ease and acceptability of increasing daily fibre in healthy adults. Participants incorporated BARLEYMAX® into their usual diet and reported on digestive tolerance and well-being during the trial.

Participants generally tolerated the added fibre well – the BARLEYMAX® supplementation was described as “acceptable.” Some reported minor, transient gastrointestinal effects (e.g. increased gas or bloating) early on, but these symptoms eased over time as their bodies adapted. The study concluded that short-term inclusion of BARLEYMAX® is safe, feasible and may support improved appetite regulation, satiety and digestive comfort in routine diets.
